Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced yesterday that he will call a legislative session to address the state’s rapidly deteriorating fiscal situation on Nov. 5, the day after the election. The problem is so bad — some estimates put the state’s current-year shortfall at $10 billion — the governor can’t wait until new lawmakers are sworn in Dec. 1.
It’s comforting to know we’ll be going after it with a lame duck Legislature that took a record 85-days to pass the last budget, which immediately has gone out of whack.
“We have to deal with it quickly,” the Sacramento Bee quoted Schwarzenegger as saying.
I, for one, am not convinced this Legislature can deal with any budget matter quickly. But I’ll be there covering it, even though, as you loyal Total Buzz readers know, I now hate the &^%$ budget. |
