Wetlands Restoration

CalCoast is a member of the Public Advisory Committee of the Southern California Wetlands Recovery Project (WRP) a partnership of public agencies working cooperatively to acquire, restore, and enhance coastal wetlands and watersheds between Point Conception and the International border with Mexico. Using a non-regulatory approach and an ecosystem perspective, the WRP members work together to identify wetland acquisition and restoration priorities, prepare plans for these priority sites, pool funds to undertake these projects, implement priority plans, and oversee post-project maintenance and monitoring. The WRP's efforts will result in a long-term increase in the quantity and quality of the region's wetlands.

CalCoast and the WRP helped pass Propositions 12, 40 and 50, which created billions of dollars in funding for parks, clean water and coastal uses. During the 2002 legislative session, CalCoast was the sponsor of AB (Nakano), which was incorporated into AB 2354 (Pavley) to allocate from Proposition 40 $46 million for wetlands restoration.
